In Music we have been working on creating and recording simple musical patterns in different meters. Students we’ll get to know, what kind of musical institutions and events we have in Wroclaw. Finally, we’ll start a preparation to WIS Winter WOW Concert.
Art Class:
Grade 4 students have finished their human rights posters during art
class. The students had to draw and write their simple messages with
meaningful but simple drawings in their posters. They were allowed to use
only 6 colors with black and white colors on their poster. The students
had to think carefully and choose colors which emphasis the message on
their poster. Now they are going to start a new unit (stand alone unit),
Paul Cézanne and still life. Please send one doll (hairy and animals
prepared) and one vegetable (or fruit) by Tuesday 18th October. All
students will start to learn how to compose the still life and water color
application with this unit.

Dear Fourth Grade Parents;
We have an exciting week ahead of us with our United Nations Cares Film Festival. The Grade 4 students are giving the 2nd and 3rd grades some background information so they may better understand the six human rights issues we will be watching and discussing at our UN Days event on Friday, October 28, 2011. The three classes will be taking a bus over to Zielinskiego Campus to share the event with the 5th through 10th grades. The Pre-K, K, and Grade 1 classes will have a film all for themselves and activities surrounding caring and helping children be happy.
Please bring your child earlier on Friday (8:10) so the bus may leave by 8:20 sharp.
Language Arts: We have recently finished reading “The Adventures of Robin Hood” and have watched the Disney version of Robin Hood. This week, we will be constructing a compare and contrast essay regarding the two versions. We have also started Spelling Rules and spelling tests regarding those rules. Students are also recording words they don’t know while they are reading during Daily 5 time. I want them to translate those words into their mother tongue, and after fall vacation, I will give them a vocabulary test on their own words once a week.
Math: Students have recorded many vocabulary words in their math notebooks for our geometry unit. They had a practice quiz last week and this week will have a vocabulary test using the words and drawing the lines, angles, triangles or quadrangles that the words describe. We are continuing geometry using their compasses and rulers, and we will finalize our second math unit with a test after we come back from our vacation.
Unit of Inquiry: The United Nations Days falls very nicely after our Unit 1 exploration. The students are well prepared to teach the 2nd and 3rd grades about the violations of human rights around the world, so all three classes will understand the Film Festival and our discussions on Friday. Unit 2 is Where we are in place and time and deals with the migration of people into Wroclaw and how it has changed Wroclaw. I want to go on two field trips since we didn’t get to go on one the first unit (the people I was trying to work with did not end up being available). We will go on the first one the week we come back, so I’ll be sending out field trip notices later this week. The students are already paired up for this unit and will be working together to create a brochure for new migrants coming into Wroclaw.
The sportsmanship on the soccer field is a very important issue and should always be on our students’ minds. We want everyone to play fairly and enjoy playing together at our school.

3rd and 4th Grade Physical Education
Students are now in the middle of their Soccer unit in which they will be
assessed at the end of on their movement skills (correct technique of
dribbling and passing skills) as well their safety and behavior during
each lesson. Each student was pre-assessed for each skill and have been
put into appropriate groups, which will allow them to develop at their own
pace. They have also been participating in crab soccer matches where you
move on your hands and knees and 4 balls are used instead of one. Please
ask your children about this activity that they have all seemed to be
enjoying. If you would like to know more about this unit please go to the
link below on the WIS PE wiki page and you can find information under the
date of October 10:
